How Opportunity Matching Learns What You're After

Opportunity matching compares new government notices with your profile: codes, certifications, set-asides and approved sources. In FedOpp, each notice is marked Pursue, Review, Skip or Incomplete. Your Pursue, Skip and More like this choices teach it what you're after, so it surfaces more opportunities that fit and fewer that don't.

What a Match Profile holds

Your Match Profile describes what your business can do. In FedOpp it covers your NAICS codes, FSC and PSC codes, the NSNs you supply, certifications, set-asides and approved sources. Entering your CAGE code can suggest values from your own SAM.gov registration, and you choose what to keep. See the Match Profile on the features page.

What the four marks mean

Pursue fits. Review means look closer. Skip means a gate blocks the shop. Incomplete means the record is too thin to call.

Each mark comes with its reasons, such as a code match, the due date, drawings, approved source or packaging, so you can see why a notice landed where it did.

How your choices teach it

The profile is the starting point. After that, three choices do the teaching:

  • Pursue tells it this is the kind of work you want.
  • More like this asks it to find more notices like a good example.
  • Skip tells it to show you less like this.

Over time it learns what you're after and surfaces more opportunities that fit.

Getting better matches

  • Fill in the profile completely, including set-aside codes and the NSNs you can supply.
  • Mark Skip honestly. A clear “not for us” teaches as much as a Pursue.
  • Use More like this on your best examples.
  • Revisit the profile when you add a capability or certification.

What matching doesn't do

Matching sorts notices; it doesn't decide for you. It can't guarantee you are eligible for a set-aside or approved as a source; check the solicitation. And it doesn't bid: you submit every bid or quote yourself. Matching is part of FedOpp's AI Chief Contracting Officer, which also works as an AI bid finder.
